Although my friend Tom Perrotta has been in town to cover Wimbledon for Tennis Magazine and the New York Sun, I wasn’t able to score any tix to Wimbledon these last two weeks.
Last night, I heard from a friend that Ticketmaster.co.uk was releasing 500 tickets the evening before each Wimbledon match, so my friends and I manned our computers at the appointed time, and voila, £96 lighter in wallet, I had a ticket to the Men’s Finals today.
As you probably heard by now, Nadal won, and it was a long, knock down, drag ‘em out kind of match. Seven hours after their faceoff started, *I* felt exhausted and exhilarated, and all I had to do was sit in my seat and watch.
A great match by two great players, and I feel lucky to have seen it in person. Congrats, Rafa!

OMGosh, how lucky (and broke) are you to have gotten to see this in person. Just watching it on TV was incredible! I live in Portland, OR and I am lucky that somebody (NBC) actually broadcast the whole thing. Yesterday, they broadcast the Willams sisters singles match but cut out of the Men’s Doubles right in the middle and didn’t even bother to show the women’s doubles AT ALL. Depressing.
Wow, so lucky! What a great match that was. I wasn’t even rooting for either one in particular, it was just so much fun to watch them battle it out – well worth the £96 I’m sure!
My boyfriend woke me up at 6am California time to watch the final live. I thought he was crazy, but was happy to be able to witness such an awesome match. Thinking of you, hope to catch up soon! (Bobby & Cathy’s friend, Ann)
Yes, you are very lucky to have a friend with such nimble fingers that managed to nab those ticketmaster tickets!
violetismycolor and Ann C: I can’t believe how early you guys were up to watch the match, though in hindsight, that was def the right thing to do. Do west-coast networks call it “pre-Breakfast at Wimbledon”?
Andy M: Yes, seeing that match was definitely money well spent.
Jane: Yes, nimble-fingered friends were the key!
